It was September 2019 and we were off to Uganda once again – this time to stay for five months. This was new for us as we typically visit for just 3-4 weeks. Early in 2018 we received clear direction to establish a Development Team of young Ugandans. In short, the vision for this Team is to help them each start a sustainable business that will provide for their families. Then the Team will reach out to others in need such as they were to help them start a business and become successful, too. In one sense, this is similar to a “succession plan” for Say Yes. But more than that, it’s a plan to tangibly sow into lives for a lifetime impact.
Each of the young people we have invited to be part of the Development Team have committed to this vision and very much want to be a part of helping it grow, thereby causing a ripple effect of helping others get out of the poverty cycle.
So back to why we went to Uganda – we felt the Lord put it on our hearts to teach Kingdom Culture to the Team. They are each born again and love the Lord. But sometimes it’s hard to see the forest for the trees, so to speak. Our own earthly culture tends to create a veil keeping us from seeing how God would have us do life. This was not an effort to fix all things related to culture – rather to instill a focus on changing the way we think. To gain a higher perspective of what we can do with our lives for the cause of Christ while we are yet on the earth. This would definitely be a challenge for the Team AND for us – it was a learn as we go type thing. And, yes, God was be glorified!
